Have You Heard About M&M?
Some friends and I are in the process of launching a new quarterly print magazine called Moonshine and Magnolias: A Journal for Southern Regional Consciousness. The first issue is due to be released this Winter!
The magazine publishing arena is brand new territory for us. I am a writer and theologian m=by training, but I felt compelled--and was encouraged by others--to offer up a journal in the venerable tradition of now-defunct Southern journals. We don't really have anything else like that at present. Though there is a glut of magazines offering articles of the "5 Things to Wear at Your Next Goat Roping" variety, there doesn't seem to be one that engages our culture much beyond mere cosmetics. And if I had to guess, I would say that most of the present contributors to Southern Living are snowbirds from some god-awful place like New Jersey.

Much interest has already been shown, and we only expect that to grow in the days to come. There are many moving parts involved in getting a magazine up and running (and eventually into your mailbox). In order for us to be able to put out a first-rate journal in terms of both written content and aesthetic elegance, we need to raise some funds. Laborers are worthy of their hire, and beyond that, very few are willing and able to work for free. So we need to be able to compensate our artists, writers, and those who do all of the work behind the scenes to make this journal a success.
To that end, we have set up a gofundme fundraiser to raise capital to aid us as we work on getting this first issue to your mailbox. Please consider helping us. Donations of any amount are welcome.
